Enjoy some halibut fishing by a family owned and operated business with over 30 years of experience in Kachemak Bay.
Diamond Creek
A short, 15-30 minute hike depending on your pace with a beach as your reward destination. About 4 miles north of Homer, turn left off of the Sterling Highway directly across from Diamond Ridge Road in order to access the trail.
Carl E. Wynn Nature Center
Perched above Homer, this trail system covers a fraction of the 140 acre wildlife preserve. An excellent spot for birding, with the chance of spotting black bear or moose. If your interests tend towards local history, you can learn about the Wynn Homestead.
Hiking Trails Across the Bay.
You can access these trails by taking a water taxi across the bay. We recommend Mako's Water Taxi, which you can find in the "Transportation" section below.
Grewingk Lake | Easy
3.3 miles | ~200 feet elevation gain
A very popular hike, this trail brings you through a boreal forest to the glacial lake.
Grace Ridge | Med.–Hard
8.3 miles | 3,156 feet elevation gain
You can begin at either end of this trail for spectacular views of the bay and Cook Inlet.

Grewingk Glacier | Hard
12.6 miles | 2,027 feet elevation gain
Difficult but rewarding trail that begins at the glacier lake trailhead.
Saddle Trail/Alpine Ridge | Med.–Hard
3 miles | elevation gain varies
Head south at the top of the Saddle Trail. The trail disappears above the tree line, but the views are incredible.

This is a favorite place. If you're a bibliophile, you will want to spend hours here. Andy has books on everything and a good selection of books about Alaska.
The Homer Spit
If this isn’t already on your list of things to see, we highly recommend enjoying an afternoon out on the spit, visiting stores, seafood restaurants, or walking through the harbor with a nice cup of coffee.

Save-U-More
Homer's answer for Costco. It has a little bit of everything.
Safeway
Safeway is your most typical grocery store. If this is your first time away from the lower 48 states, expect higher prices due to shipping.
Homer General Store
Although town is not far from the spit, if you need something quickly, the Homer General Store can be a great help.
